ABC has released a story today which draws upon the concerns previously raised by the University of Queensland and Prisoners’ Legal Service about the use of solitary confinement. This story contains interviews from people who have bravely shared their experiences of solitary confinement in Queensland’s prisons.
We renew our call for an end to this practice due to the harmful impact it has on the mental and physical health of people in prison. Alternative measures must be adopted which will improve the wellbeing of vulnerable people and better promote community safety.
